With a fascination for the structural insight that existed before complex computational methods, the project emanates in an analysis of the structure behind the well-known gothic chuch Kings College Chapel.
With its detailed structure, an inherit understanding of the structural forces is evident. With the use of parametric software, Rhino + grasshopper and by combining the parametric model with instant structural calculations, karamba and robot, it was possible to evolutionary solve the optimisation nessecary for finding the shape that created the least deflection. In this way, the calculations rationalise with the expectations, while the most optimised arch is the hanging arch, which the optimisation also approximately approached through its evolution.
